Traditional Native American war shirts featured designs that reflected their wearers’ acts of bravery; shapes of neck tabs and other elements varied depending on the tribe. This reproduction, made of deerskin and created by Arizona artisan John MacLeod, was beaded, sewn and painted by hand, just as authentic originals were. Embellishments include trade beads, horsehair, paint and abalone shell. The black slashes, called coup marks, signify exploits such as battles fought, enemies killed or horses stolen. Displayed here above the mantel of a stone fireplace, the colorful modern-day interpretation makes a strong and relevant statement. I found it at Turn West Design, (480) 595-5933.
Hand-woven of wool in a one-of-a-kind design, the West Deco flat-weave rug features a Navajo-inspired feather motif in a neutral palette spiced up with splashes of red and turquoise. Imported from Romania, it measures 8' by 10' and is available at David E. Adler Inc., (480) 513-3200.
Colibri’s hand-carved Madrigal Chest boasts rustic hand-forged iron hinges with an antique look. Crafted of alder with a Tobacco finish, the handsome piece measures 24"H by 48"W by 28"D. Custom sizes and additional finishes are available through Anthony’s Collection, (480) 922-4960.
With its rolled arms, curving back and turned-wood feet, King Hickory’s Red Rock Sofa presents a soft silhouette. Shown here in a combination of fabric and leather accented with nailhead trim, it measures 48"H by 101"W by 44"D and is available through Fiesta Furnishings, (480) 951-3239.
Part of the Florentino collection from Lexington, the Giardini Cocktail Leather Ottoman is a classic design offering understated elegance. Beautifully embellished with nailhead trim, it measures a generous 40" in diameter and is available at Design Source Furniture, (480) 820-3000.
With its ornately carved and gold-leafed alder frame and embossed-leather seat and back outlined with nailheads, the Savannah Chair is the picture of sophistication. Measuring 48"H by 34"W, the stately piece works well in both rustic and refined settings. Find it at La Maison Interiors, (480) 948-1144.
